2008 and 2009
I know I told you I would post about 2008 and all, and I tried to write a post about it and it just didn't happen. If you want to know about 2008 read these posts:
- How I spent my spring
- How I spent my fall (It seemed like it at least!)
- I figured out what I want to do with my life
Incidentally, if you want to know about 1983, read this post.
So, now is the time for the future! Things I want to happen in 2009
- I want to get Empty Garage Books to a point where it doesn't depend on me for normal operation.
- I want to put out at least a rudimentary version of this outdoor website I am always talking about.
- I want my knee to heal so that I can actually do things.
- I want to be undefeated at badminton this summer. Hey, I can dream, can't I?
- I want people to notice Ultra Parrot. (You don't know what it is, but it is exciting.)
- I want to take better care of myself.
And that leads us to my experiment! I am starting an experiment! Starting next Tuesday I am going to try a whole boat load of things and see if they make me feel better physically, emotionally, ecumenically, etc. Here is what I have so far: (in no particular order)
- Wake up at 5:30am and go to sleep at 9:30pm
- Eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each, every day
- Always put things away in my room. No more just throwing things on the floor!
- Wear reading glasses while I am at my computer (as recommended by an optometrist friend)
- Sleep on my back (well, this one might not stick)
- Instead of using a desk chair, I will be using one of these.
- Eat regular meals 3 times a day
- Exercise everyday except maybe Sunday. Running on odd days and push ups and sit ups and core work out on even days. Or something similar.
- I will have dinner at 8pm and then do things that are not computer related, like reading a book. gasp!
- Finish all my showers with a cold water for a count of 30.
- Shave every day. If I grow out my beard then I'll still shave my neck.
- Brush my teeth 2 times a day and floss once.
- Not program in bed. It hurts my back!
I am going to be scientific about this as well, logging how I feel. Logging what I do. I got out the old scale today and weighed what I ate so I can be practiced up for doing it full time come next week!
So, do you guys have any suggestions for this that make you feel better that aren't food related? You don't have to even do them yourself. Maybe something you have heard about. Tell me tell me and I'll consider adding it to the list!

I was going to write a response, but is any of this real or was it just a way to get that link in there?

It is real! And the only reason I did the Rick Rolling was because Keri has been begging me to for months.
Here are a couple more items for my experiment that I forgot:
+ Shower every day.
+ Drink more water.
+ Weigh myself every morning
+ Take my heart rate every morning

That thing I posted on my flickr page was one of the pushup bars I put together. I've been doing running, pushups and situps too.

That iPhone app looks pretty nice! But I'm going to roll my own, it isn't nearly thorough enough for my quench for statistics.
Robert, well, we need a picture of you doing push ups with it! I'm still not sure I understand... Why don't you just do normal push ups? And where did the photo go! I was going to link to it but can't find it anymore!

You use them kind of like this. He looks like he's in kind of an awkard position, and I don't know that I'd wear a sweater, but you get the idea. For me, using my palms on the ground was kind of hard on my wrists, plus your arms can extend back a bit more with your hands raised up off the ground a bit.

Some more things for my list!
+ Take a vitamin pill every day
+ Take an additional vitamin D pill every day (my mom says the research is showing that vitamin D is important!)
+ No more soda pop

No more soda pop?! Even on special occasions? Like say, on the mountain trip this weekend?

Well, the experiment officially starts next Tuesday, so I can still have soda pop this weekend!
