555
I really hate it when movies do things that make you notice that you are watching a movie.
A perfect example of this is that all telephone numbers in movies and TV Shows these days have '555' as their first three digits. So, any time I hear a telephone number in a movie or TV show and it starts with '555' I cringe, and think about the fact that I'm watching a movie or TV show. While watching a movie or TV show I want to get absorbed, I want to forget I am watching something fake and get pulled into the world that is being created. And that stupid telephone number ruins that. You have to hand it to the creator of Sex and the City, he bought a telephone number to use in the show precisely so he didn't have to have a '555' number.
Another thing that does this is post-sex scenes. People always role over and pull the sheets up and perfectly tuck them up in their armpits. It looks so fake and staged and obviously all about just making sure the actors are covered up. Is that really what people do?
I'm sure I could think of some more but I'm tired and it's late. Anybody else got some good examples?
Only slightly related, but have you ever noticed that people never say 'good bye' when they are on the phone in movies and tv shows? They just hang up. Just once I want someone to acknowledge this. "Hello? Hello? Are you there?" And then maybe call them back, "We got disconnected, you didn't say goodbye." That's what I'd do in real life!

completely agreed. it also bothers me, on a similar note, when actors don't dial any meaningful numbers. they're acting -- they should be acting that the numbers are real numbers. in seinfeld, for example, they either have the most incredible memories or they're completely bullshitting. jerry goes on a date with a girl one time and suddenly has her number memorized?! i think not. come on.

also: when you can see evidence of rehearsal. I just watched Bonnie and Clyde and on several occasions you can see tire tracks from previous takes. lame.

Re: your dialing numbers complaint, what about when "hackers" "use" keyboards. They are just mashing down the keys!
And one more personal pet peeve, when people cry badly. Either the actor nails the crying or you show them from the side or behind.
