I am Benjamin Thomas, an avid pirate (arrrgh!) of three years. I love frisbee, philosophy and women. The three essentials to life. Well fruits, too, we don't want no scurvey, now do we?
To understand me a little better here is a list of things I would like to do before I grow old and decrepid:
First and most importantly I want to pass on my genetic code by planting my seed in the fertile earth of atleast one woman. When I daydream no other idea comes into my head more than how I would raise a child if I had one. This one act is what I live for. One day being able to have a child and take part in molding who he is. Raising a little kid, who starts out completely blank, into an actual living, breathing, thinking being.
To own a motorcycle. Not because I would want to go fast, or be rebellious. Just because the idea of a motorcycle appeals to me. They just seem glorious. Listen to Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run; it is in its essence why I would want one.
To become good at basketball. The only true way to gain respect from your peers in the US. Well, not really. But I would want to be good just to rub it in the face of all those that have made fun of my basketball skills in the past. Grrrrr.
To become a good kisser. What one skill is more useful and can get you further?
To become a good dancer. Salsa and Cumbia particularly. If you can dance well you can get ladies. Plus dancing is fun.
I plan to go live in Costa Rica and become a teacher down there after I graduate from college. When I went down there as an exchange student in 2001 for six months I fell in love with the place, the people and the atmosphere of a little town called Atenas, Costa Rica. I would like to teach at the same school that I attended. Also part of this is that I want to raise a kid while down there so he can grow up and be two things: proficient in a second language, and a good dancer. However I don't plan to live down there too long because I want my kid to get a decent education and grow up in the states, so I can only stay there for 5 to 8 years.
Travel through Europe. I mean what part of the world has a more interesting history? I would want to go to Paris, Rome, London, Venice, Spain. I have for a long time been fascinated by a lot of the history of the region so it seems fitting to see the places where all these different things happened. This dream is less important than the one above and the one below, but it just seems like something that should be done.
Sail around the world. I don't know why, but I just want to. The funny thing is that I hate the ocean. So I don't really know how this one would work without me going insane from the horrible smell of the sea. and sand. oh god I hate sand, but maybe being in a boat I wouldn't have to deal with that too much. There are a couple of ways that I would go about doing this, the two that I have been thinking of most are: Going to a boat building school up in northwestern washington. It takes like seven years to get through it but in the end I would know how a sail boat works and would have a greater appreciation for what I was doing, but this one takes a lot of time. The other idea is to rent a large cargo boat then planning a route around the ocean in which I buy and sell cargo to fund my trip. The big problem with this idea comes from trying to figure out how to get the money to lease a large boat and get a cargo. So maybe I'll just sign on with a ship and try and find my way around the world. Jumping from ship to ship. this I hope to do after I graduate and before I get a real job--as a teacher or something. Right. Dreams as I said above.
Hike the Pacific Crest Trail. the PCT is a trail from Mexico to Canada, or the other way around, depending on how you want to do it. It is about 26 hundred miles long and would take 6 months to hike. I am going to do this with my father in 2004. I would have to take about a semester off from college to do this because you have to start in April/May, before school has ended, and end in September/October, after school has started.
I want to have sex on an airplane. Enough said.
