Benji's back
In the last 3 weeks, I have finished a 5 day hike, ran 6 times, biked 3 times, swam once and joined an Ultimate Frisbee team. I've started doing my abs and core workouts every night again. I'm trying to find a regular place to play badminton.1 It would be inaccurate to say I'm healed2, but I don't think it would be at all wrong to say that we've figured this thing out. I'm on the road, and this time I'm pretty sure it's the right one.
All I keep thinking is, I'm back!
I'm back! I'm back! I'm back! I'm back! I'm back! I'm back! I'm back! I'm back!
And now all I want to do is go outside and exercise. I want to get out and run, and run a lot, and run fast. I want to go hiking. I want to go biking. I want to go swimming. I want to play soccer, frisbee, badminton, basketball3, anything really.
Three days after we got back from Peru, the wifey and I (and a bunch of friends) ran the Bolder Boulder 10K. Once upon a time, I thought paying to run in a race was just about the stupidest thing ever. You're not going to win it (the professional runners do). I thought being surrounded by 56,000 people was a flaw, not a feature. But that was before I ran it (which I did last year), and now I am a huge fan of the Bolder Boulder race.4 I think everyone I know should do it. It is just that much fun. It might be becoming one of the weekends I most look forward to in the year, up there with the Mountain trip and Christmas. That's saying a lot.
I finished in around 53 minutes, which is only a little worse than last years time. But the time wasn't important. What was important was that I finished.
So, now the main thing I have to worry about is not doing too much. Taking it easy. At least for another month, and then slowly bringing up the intensity. And if there is one thing I'm good at, it is being patient and taking things easy.
But I'm fucking back!5
1. we can't have Swordsman Satchel and Shiver Me Timbers Teiler being the only ones getting time with a racquet can we?
2. judging by how sore my right butt has been
3. you're as surprised as me, but I've always loved playing basketball, too bad no one likes playing it with me :(
4. and Runner's World agrees!
5. sorry in-laws, I know you're not accustomed to me swearing, but sometimes I let a little F-word out when I'm excited, and I doubt you guys would want me to censor myself or change myself here on this permanent record of my past thoughts and feelings called TSP

It's good to have you back! I'd much rather get beat by a healthy Benjamin than run away from an injured Benjamin!

Hooray, hooray!
One question, is this "And if there is one thing I'm good at, it is being patient and taking things easy." a typo???
