Cold showers
I haven't had a hot or warm shower since the comment on this post and let me tell you! I love it. I come out of the shower smiling. My favorite is standing directly under the shower head and letting the water flow through my hair. When I point it at my beard it takes a couple seconds before I feel the cold against my skin. Its wonderful. My showers are a lot shorter now, though. No more than four minutes. I move around a lot, too. And if I didn't have one knob for hot and one for cold (but had one lever for flow and one for temperature, like at home) I would turn the water off while washing. I have made an effort to take a shower every morning since the discussion and let me tell you, it is a wonderful way to wake up. It still takes me a second to get up the courage to jump in, and I even woke up my apartment-mate (Peon Peetie) with my shrieks of shock (and delight!).
I urge everyone to give it a try! I would say I am never going back. But during the cold winter months that sounds pretty hard.

It's like getting into a cold swimming pool or lake. Painful at first, but once you are wet, very refreshing!flychipmunk

This does not sound like a good idea to me. However, I will try it this weekend. The Anonymous Poppy

Thanks great! I bet colder showers really are good for you. And better for the environment too, in a small way, if you're not using energy to heat as much water and also not using as much water since you'll take shorter showers.
Personally though, I love hot showers. I usually turn the water as hot as I can stand it and shower as long as the hot water lasts! Well, I do that now because my utilities payment is fixed and part of my rent. I took warm showers, and shorter ones, when I was paying for it.

I have been thinking about this, and here's what I've decided to do: half cold showers. See, the hot water opens up your pores so you can clean them better, and it makes your hair get cleaner and more conditioned. Then, once you're clean, the cold water shrinks the pores back down and makes your hair behave better (unless you go do something silly, like attacking it with a blow-dryer).Peon Peetie

i have read in lots of places that it's good to take warm showers (NOT hot) and then end them with two minutes of cold. but it's important not to shock your body-- either make it a small change or gradual
