Contact!!
When I was in high school I studied 'abroad' in Costa Rica for six months. After I came back I found it was hard to keep in touch and after the first couple years, we lost communication.
Well, last week, I received an email randomly from my host brother asking for my phone number. He had been searching for me online and came across benjaminthomas.org, which has my email address. I quickly responded and less than 5 minutes later the phone rang.
What?! Oh no! I haven't spoken in Spanish in years! But it actually turned out okay. We were able to communicate in a mix of English and Spanish.
As it so happens, he is currently visiting the United States to practice his English and is staying in Iowa. Why, that's not too far from here! So, I am going to go visit him sometime in the next three weeks (we're still working out the schedule)!
Then this last weekend (from my brothers encouragement) I called the motherland in Atenas, Costa Rica! Man was I nervous! But that worked out well, too! They were actually excited to talk to me! (I had fears they wouldn't want to have anything to do with me.)
I followed up by sending them an email with links to all my web real estate so they could see what I have been up to and look at photos of my fiancé. But when I started typing 'thescruffypirate.org' I hesitated... TSP can be kind of a silly place. I wasn't sure how all the jokes would translate. Like this one or this one or this one. So, I decided for my first contact in 6 years I'd just leave TSP out of it. I tell you, I just can't take you guys anywhere!
Anyway, I am very excited about all this! It has been reminiscing-central around here, thinking back on my time in Costa Rica. I can't wait to see my brother!

It's pretty clear to me that we would be wonderful people to take places if you just didn't look at so much porn, eat so much poop, and pick your nose so much.
But, I think that sending them online to look for you is a bad idea in general. You have no idea what they might find.
