Doing stupid things brings me happiness
I like to do a lot of pointless things. Just because. And now that I think about it, I can't really remember any good examples. Hmmm. I like the cover pulled over Leeland's trunk whenever I lock him up. I don't like bookmarks to be sticking out of books. I carefully put away the cords of my portable hard drive after every time I use it, even if it is 20 times in an hour. I make sure all my music is tagged with the original album, even if that means breaking up a greatest hits album whose track ordering I am much more familiar with. I have the composer for every song in my iTunes library, even though I have never once consulted this information. When I am programming I put a new line and tab after every '{' and a space after ever parenthesis and comma. I try to walk from Mexico to Canada.
Well, my current goal is to listen to every song on my iPod alphabetically by song! Which is 8.9 days worth of music! And I won't listen to another song on my ipod till I get it done.
How far in the alphabet do you think I'll get before I give up?

Sorting my own iTunes by song title, I would probably crap out at a 20-minute track called "An Interview with Susan Perry." Some library thing that I know nothing about.
Would it count if you just put down the iPod and let it roll for 20 minutes, picking it back up on the next track? (Which for me would be "Ana Ng" by They Might Be Giants, which would be a real palate-cleanser after the 20 min. snoozefest.)

Well, I don't use iTunes at all. So I'll think about just arranging all the music I have into a similar sort of alphabetical playlist. I would probably make it all the way to Wizard People, Dear Reader. But I do not think I would listen through the whole hour and a half of that before moving on to any songs I might have that start with an x, y, or z.
Although I might. It is pretty awesome, even if you're not watching the movie while you listen to it.

I am also stupid! Yes!
Actually, in high school, I kept a booklet of CDs with the CDs in order of how much I liked them (most liked in the front, under the theory that I would listen to them more often). Periodically, I would listen to each one in backwards order of preference (from least liked to most liked) and see if the order still applied and/or if any needed to be moved in or out of the booklet. The process took about a week of solid listening and essentially epitomizes the uselessness and embarrassment that is my life.
Also, I probably smell really bad right now.

Honestly, it never occurred to me that I should listen to non-music songs in my library. I have already skipped one Mitch Hedburg track.
Do you think I should start over now? Probably. Luckily I have only listened to like 30 minutes to 1 hour of my library.

Okay, I'm going to guess that emoticon is a monkey. Because of the monkey lips. Maybe a kissy-face.
As it turns out, I'm glad we started talking about non-music tracks. Because now I'm listening to Wizard People, and it's awesome.

It is indeed a monkey, as per the conversation on tsp and the gmail help page :)

Wouldn't the practical thing to do be to simply go through all the songs you don't really listen to and delete them? Then this wouldn't be an arduous task, and why would you have songs on your ipod if you didn't want to listen to them in the first place? I know darn well why, because I have tons of them, and this deletion task is #09 on my master list of things to do, but in the meantime, I'll continue to skip over approximately thirteen songs to every one I actually listen to, and then not all the way through.
