I am extending an invitation
I just read this article about things that need to happen when you turn 25. It is a list of things that you should or should not do. It is has some good points and good intentions but is mostly just obnoxious and boils down to, "Be respectful". However, there was one item that particularly irked me:
Number 2: Do not invite yourself to stay with friends when you travel anymore
Which I personally disagree with. Not only does it make economical sense, but if you are in my town I want you to visit me!
So, just to clear up any confusion, I am extending an invitation to anyone (that I have met in person) that I would love it if you are traveling for you to stay at my house. I would appreciate advanced warning if it is possible but if you have to call me up the night it is happening, 5 minutes before it is happening, then that's the way it goes. The usual rules apply, though (with an emphasis on rule number 1). I also can't gauruntee that you won't be sleeping on the floor.
Seriously, 98% of the time it won't be an inconvenience and the 2% will only be an inconvenience because I will have something else that I have to be doing and won't be able to properly visit with you like I would want.
Heck, if you have friends that need a place to stay, feel free to call me on their behalf.
One of my dreams is to have a big house some day and enough visitors where there is always somebody coming through. So help me make it happen.
Some quick rules: If you are planning on staying for more than three nights I need advanced warning. If you don't schedule it ahead of time then rule number 2 (from my list) doesn't apply, bring your own meals. You can't use my laptop to check your email. Sorry, I really don't like it when people who aren't me use my laptop. I can't think of anything else!
[Oh and one final response to the Turning 25 article. Re: Number 16. Since when has drinking until you throw up ever properly been a point of pride?]

Have you thought about joining couch surfers?

I only want people I know to visit me, (or their friends). I have absolutely zero interest in hosting random people.
You've used couch surfers though, haven't you? Did you like it?

Yeah. I don't like unexpected change to my schedule...at least I don't respond to it well, so I don't like hosting very often. Daniel and I have hosted two people; it is always entertaining and interesting to see what they are like. A lot of times you get people from other countries, so that is neat. If I wasn't so anal about my routines, I would like couch surfing a lot more b/c I like observing all kinds of people and hearing about their perspectives on life and such. I haven't stayed with anyone yet.
