If only I were a lego...

If you ask me what toy defined my childhood I will say legos. If ask me what some of my fondest memories are from my childhood I will say playing legos with the neighbors. If you ask me what is one thing I will never get rid of, I will say my legos. Basically, I am a big lego fan. Because of this I have been wanting to make a layout with legos in it for quite some time. I have tried to draw some before but they always came out looking like crap. Well, earlier this week I came across the solution. Stop trying to draw them! So, instead of using Gimp (a program similar to Adobe Photoshop) I used Inkscape (similar to Adobe Illustrator) which is a vector based application. So I could move things around and tweak them to my hearts content! And I was happy! Here are some examples of what I can do (click the image to view larger version):

What I did was make all the lego parts individually. I can then put them together however I want. Here is the complete set. It has practically all of my clothes, with the exception of two T-Shirts and my camping wardrobe. I am pretty excited about it.

Unfortunately for you guys, my tsp readers, I have decided to use the legos in a layout for BenjaminThomas.org, which will be my professional website with resume and examples of work. I don't want people coming here and you guys scaring them off!

Anyway, I have had a lot of fun making these. So much fun that I stopped hanging out with people here so I could work on them. Are there any outfits that I missed?

I'm a huge fan! Personally, legos are tied with playmobil toys for me. Two things I'll never discard! Beautiful work!

Benjamin Thomas: Putting the Ego Back in Lego*

*Two possible interpretations: 1) Benjamin is egotistical, 2) In Latin, "ego" means "I," and this phrase can, therefore, be a reflection of the fact that Benjamin has made little "I"s out of Legos. Either way, this is fantastic!

These are exactly the comments I wanted! Dreams really do come true, and sometimes they are covered in syrup.

    Et in Arcadia Lego.

For those not in the know (e.g., me), Steve's comment refers (unless I am mistaken) to the two titles of paintings by Nicolas Poussin.

There are also some other fun lego phrases that can be useful to know. Examples:

Noli me vocare, lego te vocabo
Don't call me, I'll [use my lego phone to] call you.
Nihil est--in vita priore lego imperator Romanus fui
That's nothing--in a previous life I was a Roman Emperor [who ruled over a giant lego city].

I suppose I should clarify: that city was only one that I ruled. I was an emperor after all.

I like that you linked to Some other fun lego phrases implying that there were lots but then quoted the only two on the page that had to do with 'ego'.

Right: "Legos are also in Arcadia." Which makes Arcadia even better (like the nymphs aren't enough, right?).

    More:

    • Lego me bene habeo: I have some awesome Legos.
    • Tu fui, lego eris: What you are, Legos were (i.e. "I could make a better man out of Legos")

Also, you simply must call these little Benjamins your "alter Legos."
