Movies Coming Out Soon, May 2011 Edition
My list of movies coming out in the next few months that I'm excited about, ordered from most excited to least. (old ones, in case you're interested)
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
The last Harry Potter movie? Wouldn't miss it! Though, this trailer isn't all that compelling. I'm sure this one's going to be a tear-jerker though. - Super
I know I linked to this last time, but I couldn't find a trailer then and it apparently still hasn't come out. Still looks dark and funny. Normally I find Rainn Wilson too over the top, but this looks like it really plays to his strengths. - The Conspirator
Story about the assasination of Abraham Lincoln. And I'm fascinated by the history of Abraham Lincoln. - Larry Crowne
Looks like classic Tom Hanks, earnest and dumb! I love this quote from him, "I play a guy who goes back to junior college because he loses his job and my teacher is Julia Roberts and guess what happens, America!" - Bad Teacher
I think we've seen this plot before but I can't get enough of JT or Jason Segel. - Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
I can't get enough of Captain Jack Sparrow, and apparently neither can Disney. - Friends with Benefits
JT and Mila Kunis. Not much else going for it. - Hesher
Joseph Gordon-Levitt self-destructing with Natalie Portman. Looks very weird, but interesting. - Bridesmaids
Written by Kristen Wiig and it has Jon Hamm from my favorite television show, Mad Men. Need I say more? - Crazy, Stupid, Love.
We've also seen this story before, but still looks like fun. Boy that Ryan Gosling is quite the charmer, isn't he? And is it just me or is he a little old for Emma Stone? - Something Borrowed
I don't think we've seen this story before, though! Maid of Honor is secretely in love with the groom. And the bride is insensitive. Guess how this one turns out, America! I have a crush on everyone from the television show Ed (that show helped shape me as a teenager!), and Ginnifer Goodwin is no exception. But that Kate Hudson is starting to get old, isn't she? - X-Men: First Class
Another X-Men movie. But this one has January Jones from my favorite show Mad Men. - Winnie the Pooh
Looks like it really gets the spirit of original movies and books. - Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Looks really dumb, but it has Mr. James Franco. Who is basically the best ever. - Submarine
I don't know much about this one, and it has no one I recognize, but it looks cute and interesting. I love stories about young romance.

Eeeeee!!!! You mentioned Ed!!!! I LOVED that show!!! And it seems like no one else has ever even heard of it. Thank you, Benji!! I think this goes on the list of similarities, right under Banana Stomach!

Hey now! I've heard of Ed! I used to watch it in 7th grade. I remember its quirkiness fondly, but I've only seen a few episodes.
So ha! ;)

OK, I'm sorry, Farluffo the Great. I guess I was just remembering that you didn't have the proper enthusiasm for the show. Let me revise... "it seems like no one else has ever even heard of it."

And not that I want to doubt your claims, Fartluffo, but Ed started in 2000. So unless you were a very late 7th grader, I'm pretty sure there's something wrong about your story...
:P

Well, ok. I guess it was 10th grade. Also, guess what guys?! I'm eating... mmm... a giant bowl of bananas as I... mmm... write this. And they feel so good in my belly. I think I'll have some more!!

Hey, Marinara! Not cool! How dare you link to a Wikipedia article last edited by Cptnono, which rhymes with Cptsono, which if you reverse it and take the derivative is Moonshine, which was almost (but not) my nickname in high school?! I will not accept this insinuation! I will not accept this subtextual hostility!

Err... Uhh...
... Farluffo? ... I... I don't know what our next move is here. Do we apologize? Gloat? Start a banana stand together and maintain our savings until we can buy a yacht and travel the world solving crimes? ... Everything is wrong!
... I think that Marinara has out-maneuvered us.
Well played, Marinara. Well played.

Yeah, it definitely looks like we've been beaten... I mean, she text sniffled! It's so hard to fight against that.
But you know who doesn't sniffle? Not ever... Even after he gets fired from his law firm and his wife cheats on him with a mail man. This guy.
Just saying.

I want to add Horrible Bosses to my list! I would have added it before but it didn't have a trailer yet!

Yes! I am finally commenting on this post (I've been wanting to for WEEKS).
Okay, these movies ALL LOOK AWESOME, RIGHT? (Except maybe Pirates; I think they lost me for good with the third one.) And I hadn't heard of hardly ANY of them before! I just do not pay enough attention to the movie these days, I guess.
The Conspirator looks absolutely amazing. I cannot wait to see it. That being said, I might be a little bit more excited for the upcoming movie about Lincoln that has Joseph Gordon-Levitt in it. But only maybe, because The Conspirator looks THAT GOOD.
Justin Timberlake looks like he will be the best thing in both of these movies that he's in. I'm so glad that he's doing so much acting, by the way, because he's, like, REALLY GOOD AT IT.
I think Hesher is actually about the kid, TJ, self-destructing, not JGL's character. I haven't seen it yet (soon though, because it comes out TODAY), but my impression is that Hesher destroys everything around him, for funsies, but TJ is doing so serious self-destructing that he really does not know how to process. Ebert didn't review it particularly well; he said the story was vague and incoherent or something. But... that's pretty much what the trailer is getting you into, I think. I'm still excited.
The movie-makers actually released some footage from the film to Joseph Gordon-Levitt's production company, hit RECord, for the community to remix. Which is something so incredibly awesome that could never happen with a studio film. Even if this animation is all that I end up enjoying about this movie (unlikely), it will still be TOTALLY WORTH IT.
Crazy, Stupid, Love looks pretty good, but I wasn't totally on board until Julianne Moore's line about going to see the new Twilight movie by herself: "... and it was really bad!"
Okay, regarding Something Borrowed:
"It was just a big mistake. We were both really drunk--"
"I wasn't that drunk."
"What?"
I REALLY HOPE that her response here is outrage. Because she WAS really drunk (as seen in the previous scene), and if he was not drunk then he was definitely taking advantage. But, you know, she's probably going to be HAPPY about it. Because in romantic comedies sexual assault is awesome when it's coming from the guy you're secretly in love with. Whatever, maybe it won't seem like that in the actual movie.
THOSE ARE MY THOUGHTS! Okay, let's see if all my html works....
