My Bucket List, 2008

Well, inspired by the movie of the same name and a recent conversation with my Pops I decided I wanted to make a bucket list. I have kind of done this before, right before college in 2002 and after getting back from the PCT in 2004. However, they weren't exactly bucket lists, more dreams for the future. Here are summaries of those lists:

August, 2002 (ahh, I was so young then!):

  1. Have a child
  2. Own a motorcycle
  3. Become a good basketball player
  4. Become a kisser
  5. Become a good dancer
  6. Work a teacher in Costa Rica after College
  7. Travel through Europe
  8. Sail around the world
  9. Thru-hike the Pacific Crest Trail
  10. Have sex on an airplane

September, 2004:

  1. Design and build my own house
  2. Make at least $3 Million
  3. Find a wife who really likes to work (so I don't have to)
  4. Have eight (yes, eight) children
  5. Write a book

I haven't actually completed any of these goals. Shoot. But there is always the future!

The premise of a bucket list is that you write down all the things you want to do before you kick the bucket. Pretty simple. However, I have divided mine into two categories with each category having two sub-categories. The two main categories are as such:

  1. Single event sort of things
  2. More long term things

And each category has a list for items that are for sure on the bucket list and a list for items that are in consideration for being on the official list.

All lists are listed in the order that the items come to me.

Alright! Let's get Down to business:

Single event sort of things, the official list:

  • Go on a motorcycle trip
  • Circumnavigate the globe without flying
  • Work on a Sail boat
  • Compete in a badminton competition
  • Write a song (lyrics and music)
  • Visit all 50 states
  • Stand on the high point for every county in Oregon
  • Do a wall flip
  • Complete a cartwheel and walk away from it on the slackline (meaning walk _on_ the slackline away from the cartwheel, meaning successfully complete the cartwheel on the line and still maintain my balance. I'm not worried about hurting myself trying this)
  • Run 400 meters in less than a minute
  • Run a mile in less than five minutes
  • Raft down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon
  • Learn to bake my own bread
  • Learn to make a salsa that I actually like
  • Finish the shirt I started sewing
  • Sew some knickers

Single event sort of things, the candidate list:

  • Work on/own a ranch
  • create a metal sculpture
  • Visit all 7 continents
  • Visit all 7 of the new 7 wonders of the world
  • Do one Mardi Gras in New Orleans
  • Do one Carnival in Brazil

More long term things, the official list:

(these are really more dreams, similar to the previous lists)

  • Own a large estate that has a permanent doors open policy to friends and family and to friends and family of friends and family (this one is dependent on making lots of money, or a very generous benefactor)
  • Design and build my own house (or estate?)
  • Grow out my beard for a calendar year (good thing I didn't make it through all of 2007! Now I get to do it again!)

More long term things, the candidate list:

  • Have children, maybe lots of them
  • Live in another country
  • Start a comic strip (web based, most likely)
  • Be a college professor
  • Be a dance instructor
  • Start my own college (this one has been rolling around for quite a while but I've always been a little embarrassed about this dream)

I can't think of anything else right now!
