Paraprof Work has started!
Work has officially started! And I am way excited about it.
There is not a whole lot going on this week, but I have gone in every day, to familiarize myself with my office and get a couple small things done. Specifically: organize the linux lab and plan a welcome back picnic. The picnic is on its way, but maybe without food. People don't eat at picnics do they?
Today, I (finally) got to move everything into the linux lab. The linux lab in the math department is about 4 years old, and as far as I know has not been cleaned once. Not once! So last friday we moved everything out of it, and then Tuesday the cleaning people came and cleaned the room and waxed it. They said the wax should sit for 24 hours and that they would come to burnish it on Thursday. Two whole days I had to wait with the brand new clean room just sitting there. It is kind of unclear as to whether or not they did in fact burnish it, but none the less today it was already. So I spent the morning moving the desks back in and the afternoon with Courtney getting the computers hooked up. And thanks to Courtney's new husband, Tim, they have internet.
So I am really enjoying my job so far. But let's hope that is not because of the lax hours and the lack of students.
I am being thrown into the mix pretty quickly this upcoming Monday. We'll see how I feel then.

It's sort of scary--what's going to happen on Monday? What if I suck at running problem sessions? What if no one takes me seriously, or if everyone takes me too seriously and expects me to have all the answers? What if I suck?! And how does all the paperwork... work... for tutors etc?
We shall see! It's going to be fun, though!

I'm not sure that I fully understand what your job is, but I'm pretty sure I wish I could get one like it for a year at OSU.

So this goes for both you and Courtney. a) No matter how nervous you are, remember that on the first day of work you will mainly be dealing with kids who are terrified of calculus, trust me they are going to be more nervous than you. You are pretty much god to them! b) There is no real paperwork for tutors, relax, in a couple of days your biggest worry is going to be staving off boredom.
