Polyphasic sleep schedule
So these last couple days I have been very excited about something, but didn't want to post it until I started it. As we all know I have for a long time been trying to develop a good sleep schedule. I have written about it before, this being the latest. I am always on the look out for ways to finally get the perfect sleep schedule. Really though, the problem isn't the sleep schedule, but is my lack of self discipline. Boo on discipline!
The other day while reading my r.s.s. feeds, I came across this article: How to Become an Early Riser - Part II. Which seemed perfect. The article as it turns out was written almost a year ago. At the bottom of the article the author linked to a follow up he did about his latest sleep schedule: Polyphasic Sleep.
Basically Polyphasic Sleep (wikipedia) is where, instead of sleeping one time in the day, a person sleeps for small amounts throughout the day. Really small amounts. 30 minutes every four hours. That adds up to 3 hours of sleep in a day. That is significantly less than most people get. There isn't a whole lot known about it, but based on the enthusiasm of the above blogger and this person I have decided to try it.
If you look at the wikipedia article, they list a couple of sources that say this schedule is a terrible idea. However if you follow the links you will find that the main argument against the polyphasic sleep schedule is that is hasn't been researched very much. Oh and that is just doesn't seem natural. I am not convinced it is going to work at all, but I am curious. so that is why I am trying it. And if you think about it almost all animals in the wild have some sort of polyphasic sleep schedule. Why would we be any different. And I think there are plenty of things that we as humans do that aren't "natural". Nothing is really natural anymore, so that isn't an argument that has much of an affect on me.
You may be asking, in light of my previous declaration about discipline, how I am going to stick to such a rigorous schedule. That is where the mighty Boatswain the fool comes in. He is going to give it a try with me, and together we are going to fight the fight! Anyone that is interested at all in it should try it now with us so that we can power through this as a team!
The fool and I are going to take half hour naps at 4 8 and 12 in both the first half of the day and the second half of the day. I just finished my fourth nap. I couldn't fall asleep. But 8am this morning my guess is I won't have any trouble falling asleep. I hope! I will make sure to update often how things are going!

I am doing okay so far. I have gotten about a half hour of sleep tonight. Then two naps yesterday. I feel about 80% which I think is pretty good considering. Around 6:30 I was pretty tired but got up and moved around. I think it is important to try and keep moving. I am looking forward to my 8am nap, though.
