Quotes are fun
Here is a list of some of my favorite quotes

Anton Chekov, who was both a doctor and an incredibly witty playwright, said, "Medicine is my wife; writing is my mistress."
It is better, of course, to know useless things than to know nothing.
-- Seneca epistles 88 45
To be an environmentalist who happens to eat meat is like being a philanthropist who doesn't happen to give to charity.
-- Howard F. Lyman
My hands tend to be full enough dealing with people who hate me for who I am. Concentrate too hard on the millions who hate you for what you are and you're likely to turn into one of those unkempt, sloppy dressers who sag beneath the weight of the two hundred political buttons they wear pinned to their coats and knapsacks. I haven't got the slightest idea how to change people, but still I keep a long list of prospective candidates just in case I should ever figure it out.
-- from "Something for Everyone" (from Naked), by David Sedaris
The word phobic has its place when properly used, but lately it’s been declawed by the pompous insistence that most animosity is based upon fear rather than loathing. No credit is given for distinguishing between these two very different emotions. I fear snakes. I hate computers.
-- from “Nutcracker.com” by David Sedaris
"You can't laugh and be afraid at the same time.... That's not a philosophical statement. I think it's a physiological statement. When you laugh, you're not afraid. And sometimes you laugh because you're afraid, but when you laugh the fear goes away. And it's not just "whistlin' past the graveyard." It actually just goes away when you're laughing."
-- Stephen Colbert
"But at last this frightful plan is ending with an unexpected crash, the shocking reality that no matter how thoroughly you might try to extinguish them, Mr. Bush, how thoroughly you tried to brand disagreement as disloyalty, Mr. Bush, there are still people like Daniel Levin who believe in the United States of America as true freedom, where we are better, not because of schemes and wars, but because of dreams and morals. And ultimately these men, these patriots, will defeat you and they will return this country to its righteous standards, and to its rightful owners, the people."
-- I love Keith Olbermann.
"You can't catch gay. But gay sure as hell can catch you."
-- Jon Stewart

Well, apparently I already posted my favorite quotes! If you look at the related posts, there is a link to this post from December 7th. I feel like a dope now! That post was a subset of my list of favorite quotes. Which is this list. Ooops!
Sorry, to be repetitive. I am incapable of having any new ideas. It is a disease I contracted from Omer.

(No offense Omer! I just figured you wouldn't take any, so I singled you out. Plus, everyone knows you have no original ideas. ;))

I like this post better anyway, Benji. But then, that's mostly because I like my response to this post better than my response to the other one. Don't get me wrong, arguing is still among the primary ways that I show affection, but I never look back on past arguments with fond memories.
Anyway, it's always fun to share quotes, even if you've done it before!

You may notice by comparing my favorite quotes from last December to now, that one of them was removed. I removed Omer's quote. Not because I don't like Omer or his quote but just because I decided I felt the opposite way. His quote is:
"Being someone's friend is tough business."
Here is my new philosophy, as of last night when I posted this list. Being someone's friend is easy. Just like them, respect them, and care about them. Everything else will work itself out in the end.
Though, I guess it is up for debate how difficult those tasks are...

There are two kinds of people in this world: the kind that believes there are two kinds of people in this world and the kind that doesn't.

An amendment to my previous quote: if the two friends like each other, respect each other and care about each other, than the toughness of being friends is lifted...
... That doesn't work either because what happens then is that you start thinking to yourself that this friendship is too easy, like it means that something is missing from the relationship and you need to go somewhere outside to get it. Then, when you tell yourself "No, no, no, there's nothing missing from the relationship," you secretly accuse your friend of being the reason that things don't seem right, and maybe they're holding some grudge against you, which they probably are, I mean who the hell are we kidding? Let's face it. Which brings us back to the earlier quote before the amendment which, is: being someone's friend is tough business

I'm sorry for that.

Also: that's wrong, Steve. There is only one kind of people in the world: the kind that believes that there is only one kind of people in the world.

wait, steve, i thought there were 10 kinds of people in this world: those who understand binary and those who don't...
