Rejection and redemption!

I don't know if all you know this, but my wife is in physical therapy school. Now before she was in physical therapy school, she was gainfully employed and had a nice pay check twice a month.

I don't know if you know this, but when someone is in physical therapy school, apparently they just get a free pass when it comes to making money and taking care of a family. So because my wife has abondoned her post, shirked her responsibilities, and left me to be the breadwinner, it has been left to me to get a job. A job that pays enough to pay the bills. Like rent, and electricity, and internet, and health insurance, and car insurance, and dental insurance, and life insurance, and food, and gas, and ... *breathing heavy now* holy cow! There are a lot of bills!

Anyway, in an effort to make my baby proud, I applied to work at an Apple Store in the area. And a week ago from last Thursday, I had an interview at 11:30am.

And let me tell you, I thought that interview was going absolutely stellar. And then at the very end they said, "we're not interested in continuing on with you as an applicant."

And let me tell you! That was quite a blow. If I'm not even qualified to sell Apple products then what the hell am I qualified to do? I spent the rest of Thursday and then Friday throwing a pity party for myself while watching Weeds:

Benji's pity party :(

Literally over 20 hours of Weeds watching in 2 days.

Well, I got a bit of a pick me up last Tuesday when I saw this tweet from Felix:

Interested in making $2k on a cool #nodejs gig (chat, socket.io) in the next 4 days? I know a project - ping me if you're interested!

And well, basically #nodejs is the second love of my life so I was excited about this opportunity. Plus, it is a 4 day project! You know how I am with commitment! This was great!

I let Felix know I was interested, and I got the gig!

So, for the last 4 days I have done nothing but program on this project. And now, in roughly 3 hours you can participate in the fruits of my labor! The website is teaming with Red Bull to stream the Red Bull Rampage bike competition online. So, I was hired to write an online chat to accompany the video that is supposed to be able to handle thousands of people chatting at once. Sounds terrifying huh? Well, yeah it is. I'm probably going to have a myocardial infarction around 1pm today. But if you'd like to see if what I have written crashes and burns or if it goes off without a hitch, tune in today in about 3 hours (1pm Colorado time).

[Seriously, every time I think about it, the butterflies in my stomach try and fly out my esophagus. I think I like programming for TSP more. You guys are more forgiving (I hope)!]
