Some site changes

Well, as you can see, I have updated the website! We have lots of changes.

  • Most notably, the layout has changed. I drew that logo all by my lonesome! (With the aid of a picture and a computer. So, not really.)

  • Second most notably, I have added OpenID to the website. But you don't have to use it! Yet. On the "Log in" page there are two forms. The top one is the OpenID one and the old is below it. You will be able to continue using the old form for at least a year. But new users have to use OpenID.

To start using OpenID go to the "Edit your profile" page and there is a form at the bottom.

  • The last big thing is that I made it so you had to go to someone's profile to send them a message. It cleaned up the online page, and now peoples' profiles will actually get read. I can change this later if everyone hates it.

  • I have fixed the formatting of commenting and messages. Now they will automatically get paragraphs and breaks inserted. However, in an effort to better protect TSP from malicious (and accidental prone) users, I have limited the HTML you can use in messages and comments. I'm sorry!

  • I have changed the name of the "Second page" to "Links" so as to better reflect the content.

However, I wanted links entries to feel different from blog entries, so I took out the title from the links page. Which is confusing and I now hate. I'll fix that eventually. Sorry that sucks...

  • I've got tags working again.

  • I've switched servers. Which means things should be faster. I hope! We'll see.

  • RSS feeds are all working again!

All in all I am pretty excited about this update. I have three more things to do on it, but I am going to work on finishing up my web portfolio and résumé for benjaminthomas.org first. That is why the balance on blog entry pages might feel a little bit off, and there is a new icon on the online page.

Just warning everyone that it is still a little buggy!

I am so unbelievably frustrated right now. Apparently the new server is slower. But I can't tell if it is from Rails or Sqlite or Apache or Mongrel or Slicehost.

So try and be patient with the site for the next couple days!

Yeah, it almost makes me a little sick. Just as with all layouts I design, I have been looking at this one for 3 or 4 months. I'm tired of it!

I think the main reason it looks so 2.0 is the font size. I am considering changing it, but currently it is set to _your_ browser default. Which really is the way it should be...

I've decided to leave the font how it is. Reading messages and comments is really enjoyable! If you want it smaller, change the default font-size in your browser ;)
