Top 5 Simple Things in Life

At some point in my life I started compiling a list of my top 5 simple things in life. I think it was during college. What is a "simple thing in life"? Well, it is something that really doesn't change your day all that much, is of pretty much no consequence, but when it happens it makes you glad you were alive to experience it.

Here's my list so far:

  1. Getting into a down sleeping bag
  2. Being able to see your breath
  3. A one wipe poop (Peon Peetie calls this a "5 star")
  4. A misshappen Skittle (or really any misshappen hard candy)
  5. ... ...

Don't ask my why I haven't come up with a 5th one yet, but I've just never found one (and remembered it!) that seems worthy of being on such a distinguished list.

Any suggestions?

It could be something like seeing a certain someone smile or something little and simple they do that you notice that makes you feel happy. Whether it's just something simple they do, how they do it or something they do for you. Though it could be argued that the simple things of a loved one are too significant to put on a simple things list of your own. I'm not sure...Also...I never eat deformed hard candy. You can have all of mine haha. I like the website Benj, I may have to start coming on here more often.

I believe Peon Peetie's definition of a "5 star" is a NO wipe poop (meaning that the first wipe comes out clean).

Yes, BenGood109, you'll have to come more often! :)

That's what I meant by "1 wipe poop"! One wipe, and look! All clean!

I still wish I could live in a world where you don't need to wipe at all.

How bout when every sock comes out of the dryer with a match? A friend told me she likes it when this happens. And I agreed! So I stole it for this post...

    Hearing a bird song
    Watching a child run
    Interesting shadow patterns
    Billowing clouds
Cool breeze on a hot day

Ben: yeah, I think you're right, those are too significant for such an insignificant list!

Farluffo: that would be a good one, but for me losing a sock in the dryer is such a rare occurrence, that it really doesn't make my day when it doesn't happen. Keep those ideas coming, though!

Peon Peetie: there's still hope that the scientists will figure that one out yet!

Seamonster mom: you are easily satisfied aren't you?

The sound of a paper towel roll falling onto a hard floor.

You know Ariel Swordfish, I'm going to have to be honest with you. I have no idea what that sounds like!

I have now done a paper-towel-falling-onto-a-hard-floor test and yup, nothing. Or is that the point?

Waking up because you're cold early in the morning and then pulling a heavy blanket on and falling back to sleep significantly more comfortable than the way you woke up.
Waking up and remembering you got a great new cereal the day before.
Managing to make anybody smile (especially strangers).

I like your list but I'm indifferent to deformed candies.

I answered this at my LiveJournal!

Something that I forgot to mention in my post: I really like your first answer, Satchel! Except I love sleeping and warm things both SO MUCH that it just doesn't qualify as a Simple Thing for me. My feelings about sleep and blankets are way too strong for that.
