Traveling

I've done a fair amount of traveling. I have been to 45 of the 50 states. To 6 different countries (Micronesia, Canada [a cop out I know], Costa Rica, Mexico, England and France). And as far as I am concerned none of them are really all that different. I mean, the obvious difference is the language. But once you get past that, every where is practically the same.

You can get nitty gritty and you can talk about architecture or cultural norms, or nuances of interaction. But those are just technical details. Being a people person myself, I guess my point is that people are people. And you will find good people and you will find bad people and boring people and interesting people no matter where you go. But all the people will have hopes and dreams and laugh and be irritating and so on.

I really honestly cannot think of any experience I have had that I don't think I could not have had in any of the places I have been to.

But I will tell you the one thing that is different that I do notice. Going grocery shopping in new places is weird. Here is an example: In Costa Rica (and apparently France) they don't refrigerate their milk in stores. They are just sitting out! What?! Getting used to the different brands of food and cereal and the fact that they don't have things that I am used to is the hardest part about traveling.

So, anyway, I am slowly coming to the conclusion that I want to build my dream house in eastern Oregon soon and stay there forever. If every place is the same, why not just stay in the best place ever, forever? You'll all come visit me right?
