To balance things out a bit: John McCain's speech was actually my favorite of the two last night. I think he would have made a really good president.

A) How dare you be a downer
B) John McCain probably would have made a good president. But he compromised who he was too much during the campaign. His speech last night was the most genuine I have seen him in a long time. Here he was campaigning 8 years ago talking about negative attack ads (basically the last 3 months of McCain's campaign). Here is telling a woman that Obama is not an Arab. McCain really does seem like a good guy.
But ultimately, he shot himself in the foot with Sarah Palin. She was a disaster.
C) I really liked the "Yes We Can" part of Obama's speech.

"No, he's a decent person" is a pretty shitty response to "He's an Arab".
My impression of McCain is about the same as yours, that he's compromised too much to the really crazy part of his party. Especially with his vice president selection.
