Zooey concert

Well, what to say? Did I have fun? Yes! Did it live up to my wildest dreams? No. But that's probably because in my wildest dreams Zooey and I meet and become great friends and she invites me to the premiere of her next movie where I get to meet Mark Whalberg.

I got to the theatre at 5:30 in the evening and realized that I had left my computer bag where I keep my license (needed to get my tickets and get in). Luckily, though, I had not put my license back where it belongs and I had it in the car. The evening was getting off to a fortuitous start!

I was not the first in line, there were about 10 people ahead of me. However, when we were let into the music hall I walked up to the stage and there were only two people already there. So, I was able to stand front and center (well slightly to the left). This means I was very close to Zooey. This blog has some pictures of the show. (Most of those photos were taking by a man standing to my immediate left). Here is one of them:

She & Him show

You'll notice me standing in my gray cardigan right in front there.

I am pretty sure that Zooey and I made eye contact once during the show.

Afterwards, I decided I would hang around the building so if Zooey came out I could yell something to her or get an autograph. I didn't want to be a weird fan or anything (well, I didn't want her to think I was a weird fan. I probably was one though) so I called up Beca and was just going to be chatting on my phone nearby. I couldn't decide where the best place to wait was, and Beca thought the back entrance was the place to be. So, I was hanging out near there when I decided to go see what was going on at the front entrance and found that there were about 8 other people waiting for the same thing. I decided to just wait with them (despite my worries of being a weirdo). We waited out there for an hour and a half. All the other bands that played came out the front, and I talked to all of them. It was a lot of fun. However, around 1am someone came out and said, "You guys, she isn't here anymore, she went out the back about 20 minutes ago." I was pretty disappointed she snuck out the back when everyone else was coming out the front. I am not that disappointed about missing her in the back because I was in the front, though. It was just an alley way and I would have felt like a weirdo. Plus, what they hell would I have said? "Can I have your autograph?" or, "Wanna be my friend?" That's the problem with celebrities. Part of the magic is that they are so unattainable. And you want this magic moment with them but it just isn't going to happen. Like I have talked about before, I probably don't want to get to know them any better. But at the same time I do!

One good thing did come from all that waiting though. I scored a She & Him poster!

A couple thoughts about the whole thing:

  • I'll never understand why some people wear the things they do.
  • Zooey is kind of funny looking. Which gets her a big plus in my book. Not that she isn't cute—she's adorable. She's just not your normal star.
  • I would love it if someone wrote a song about me. I've asked many people but no one ever has. *sniff*
  • Before Zooey came on there were 3 opening acts. 3! Come on, I don't want to hear these people, I want to hear Zooey!
  • If people plan on doing an encore then it isn't really considered an encore. And that's lame.
  • I tend to like music a lot more if I see it performed live. Music for me is pretty simple. I like music I can sing to and I like music that matches my mood. I like music with a good beat. You get all three of those down and I will love you. But if I see it performed live it becomes more than just something I listen to. I am no longer listening to a song, I am listening to a real person. I wonder why the person wrote this song. When they are love songs I wonder if they had just met someone new or if they are depressing songs I feel sad for them. Plus, I am always blown away by people who can make music. I can't and I wish I could.
  • I don't really like listening to music live. It is more work. And you can't multitask.
  • I miss my digital SLR. I returned it after owning it for a week but now I wish I still had it. They really are a lot of fun. I was eyeing all the photographers' cameras and getting jealous.

That's all I got for now!

i'm confused. you said "I tend to like music a lot more if I see it performed live." followed almost immediately by "I don't really like listening to music live." am i missing something?

I TOLD you she would come out the back! Although it would have been creepy of you to be the only one standing around in a dark alley for her....

It's cool that you got a poster, sorry I was a tired person and didn't stay on the phone for too long.

IF I listen to music live I tend to like it a lot.

However, I don't really like listening to music live. I don't like having to go somewhere. I don't like having to stand up or sit in uncomfortable chairs for a long time. I don't like that I feel like I have to pay attention and can't text message and can't talk. Generally going to live music is a pain and no fun.

    Does that clear it up?

    it does.

i used to go to shows pretty much every other week, and i slowly became critical of them. so often, you see the same shows again and again, no matter how much the groupies tell you every show "is like a different voyage" or something like that. more than anything, i don't like standing up for 3+ hours in one place, unable to move your feet at all.

i love live music though. which is why it's fun going to jazz clubs, classical shows, or old people music, where everyone expects to sit down.

it'd be ideal, i think, for shows to cost half as much and only last for ninety minutes.

interesting also is that every paragraph here starts with an i.

    indubitably!

Well, I don't know if anyone's written a song for you yet, but someone's certainly written one for someone very close to you.

So, I am trying to figure out all the lyrics for the song and these is what I can figure out:

    Little Benjamin and me
    Little Benjamin and me
    Are watching hours of buffy
    Little Benjamin and me
    Little Benjamin and me
Are testing schedules for no sleep
    Little Benjamin and me
    Little Benjamin and me
Are drinking gallons of high c
We'll drive to bj's for ice cream
    Tell kelly clarkson she's obscene?
We'll sail for treasure on high seas
We'll show how we roll on these streets
    ???
    Little Benjamin and me
    Little Benjamin and me

Maybe someone (or Blair?) can help me fill in the blanks!
