Rolling in the Deep covers
Apparently Adele's Rolling in the Deep has been covered more than 350,000 times on YouTube! Holy cow that's a lot!
Here are 71 one of those mashed together:
All I can think when I watch this is how a lot of those people were probably hoping to be "discovered" and make it big. So, this video is sort of a depressing monument to hope.

Depressing monument to hope? More like an inspiring monument to hope! A lot of these people (most notably the game show contestants) not only WERE hoping to be discovered, but ARE hoping to be discovered. They all seem talented (other than the little girls on Ellen, #7), and I doubt any of them were hanging all of their hopes on this one performance. Some of them already have been discovered, in fact, or at least are already really internet-famous. I mean, the Vazquez Sounds cover (#25) is incredibly popular, with over 58 million views. I'm pretty sure you've linked to it before, in fact.
I love that this video features all kinds of artists from different places in the world, but I BET that the most common story is similar to #65's, which is the still image that I'm seeing in your embed. (I say "the one I'm seeing" because I'm not sure if those change when different people embed them or if the uploader chooses it or what.)
I wouldn't have even watched this video (much to my loss) if the still image hadn't been Carrie Fletcher, leading me to think: "Hey, I know her!" A singer and an actress with a popular YouTube channel, Carrie Fletcher recently appeared in Alex Day's video for his latest single "Lady Godiva," as the titular naked lady on a horse. She just released a new single on iTunes that has an adorable video on her channel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-nZKkfMj0w).
Alex Day is currently in the process of proving that you don't actually have to be "discovered" in order to make a living in music, or even in order to "make it big." And he's doing it just by posting ridiculous vlogs, covers, and new songs to his YouTube channel. I doubt that Carrie was hoping that someone would see this cover and immediately sign her to a record label. Much more likely, she just wanted to both showcase her own talent and celebrate a song that she loved. The effect of YouTube popularity isn't usually immediate, it's more cumulative. There are breakout videos, of course, like "Friday" and the Vazquez Sounds cover, but most popular YouTube artists gain support slowly, by simple word of mouth advertising.
Speaking of which, Carrie Fletcher is good, and you guys should consider subscribing to her channel!
