Using technology to humanize education
Wow, this is Blowing. My. Mind.
Instead of having teachers give lectures in the classroom and assign homework for the home, the teachers help with homework in the classroom and assign lectures at home. And it makes so much sense. A lecture is a very passive way to learn. You sit there and watch. Then at home when you are actively trying things out, what do you do if you hit a road block? You stop and wait to ask tomorrow during class. But now class is moving on! But if you do the reverse, you can get help when you are actually stuck, when you actually need help.
Woah.
I can't think of a single class I have taken where this wouldn't have been helpful. I'm especially thinking about the Math and Computer Science I did at Colorado College. At a College level, let alone 5th grade (which he talks about in the video). Also, consider, for those of us who are bad at doing homework on a regular basis, watching a lecture is so much less of an effort to do in the afternoons or evenings.
If you find the idea compelling, check out their website, www.khanacademy.org. They have all their lectures online for free, which is totally cool, too. So, say if you are learning linar algebra or something, you can watch videos with explanations! This is so cool!
I wonder what you have to do to get a job for a company like that!
