Why do I program?
This was an interesting read about why programmers like to code. I related quite a bit to the conclusion.
The last link links to an article about making things more complicated than they need to be which is absolutely hilarious.
I actually tend to behave exactly opposite to the problem mentioned in the second link. If I can't find a simple elegant solution to something, I'd rather not do it. Which actually got me in trouble sometimes in class. Because some homework problems just couldn't be done elegantly (like sorting a list of five elements in seven steps). This is why I reprogram my website so often. By the time I finish it, I have learned enough to see how much it sucks.
But seriously, that second link is hilarious.

gloves. amen. except that i would probably consider myself to be in the first category (the amateurs).
and i think i write code because i like, not only as they say, to solve problems, but also to build something from myself, by myself, from the ground up. it's an amazing process of creation. but really, gloves.

I've got electric gloves for my motorcycle and they are one of the best things ever invented.
